Lighting & Compositing Exploration – Personal Project
Lighting & Compositing Exploration – Personal Project
An exploration of mood and visual storytelling using a single environment, lit across multiple conditions including daytime, afternoon, night, and sci-fi variations. The goal of this study is to analyze contrast, atmosphere, and visual readability under different lighting scenarios.

Lighting & Compositing Exploration.
Same scene, different time-of-day treatments to study mood, contrast, and readability:
Daytime / Afternoon / Midnight / Sci-Fi.
Planning the scene with a lighting-first approach.
No shaders applied — focusing purely on light placement, exposure, and value separation.
Daylight time-of-day pass with shaders applied.
This lighting study focuses on creating a bright, natural daytime environment while maintaining balanced contrast, realistic light distribution, and strong visual readability. Soft directional sunlight and global illumination were used to establish a clean, cinematic look, with compositing refining exposure, atmospheric depth, and overall color balance.
Afternoon.
This variation explores the warm and cinematic qualities of late afternoon lighting. Long shadows, warm sunlight, and subtle atmospheric haze were carefully balanced to create depth and visual interest while preserving character readability. Final compositing enhanced the mood through refined color grading and contrast.
Night.
This lighting study explores a cinematic midnight atmosphere inspired by natural moonlight and a warm practical light source from an incandescent bulb. The lighting was carefully balanced to preserve character readability while maintaining the quiet, mysterious mood of the scene.
During compositing, dramatic blue tones, atmospheric depth, and refined color grading were used to reinforce the nighttime ambience, enhance visual separation, and produce a polished cinematic final image.
Daylight base lighting with a Sci-Fi variation FX.
A creative compositing exploration that transforms the original daylight scene into the perspective of a robotic observer through custom HUD graphics, motion design, and futuristic interface elements. The visual overlays were designed to enhance storytelling while seamlessly integrating with the original composition.
